As a second-class cadet, the role of squad leader is of great importance. This position carries significant responsibilities that are crucial to the squad's success. A squad leader must be aware of what is happening with their squadmates at all times, ensuring that everyone is doing their part and that the team is working together efficiently.

One of the primary responsibilities of a squad leader is to look after their squadmates. This means that they must be approachable, listen to their concerns, and take action to resolve any issues that arise. The squad leader must be a reliable and trustworthy individual, someone whom their squadmates can rely on for guidance and support.

Another key responsibility of a squad leader is to ensure that everyone is doing their part. This means monitoring the progress of each team member and providing guidance or feedback as needed. The squad leader must be knowledgeable about the tasks assigned to the squad and must ensure that every member understands their responsibilities and how to execute them effectively.

The position of squad leader also requires excellent communication skills. They must be able to communicate clearly with their squadmates, instructors, and other cadets to ensure that everyone is on the same page. Effective communication is essential for maintaining cohesion within the squad, and the squad leader plays a critical role in fostering this.
